Karen Keogh RE My 3 plate coloured etchings and painterly monotypes are primarily concerned with exploring the landscape. I make visual sense of the scene before me by finding and simplifying the shapes, exaggerating the natural patterns and rhythms, and describing the colour, using my own personal interpretation. Using 3 plates is technically difficult, labour intensive and requires a great deal of foresight. But for me, there is no other way to achieve the exciting hues and colour combinations I’m looking for. In the late 70’s I trained to teach art at Roehampton University, London. I was a ceramics teacher for some years. My training in ceramics has played into my development as a printmaker. The thrill of opening the kiln door and not quite knowing what you will find, is similar to the big reveal when you peel back the blankets on the printing press. I studied printmaking at Morley College and Putney School of Art in London.
