"I always think that painting should not rigidly adhere to a certain medium, but should use different media to show the best texture and beauty of different objects. ...oil, watercolour, colour pigments, Chinese painting pigments, pencil, charcoal ...each have different special characteristics. At the same time, I use the techniques of Chinese painting to convey a particular atmosphere."
Julie Zhu Liying (b.1980, China) has been creating art since the age of 12, and is familiar with both Western and Chinese art techniques. She graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor of Comprehensive Painting from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, China, and in 2015, received a Master of Business Administration from the Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University in Singapore.
