Jin Feng was born in Harbin, China, and with Korean descent. He was graduated with a BA at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing, China (1987-1992), majoring in sculpture. Jin emigrated to San Francisco since 1995 and now lives and works between Beijing and San Francisco. Jin enjoys experiencing the stimulation in between Eastern and Western societies, as well as adopting what he has learned into his art creation. He developed his own style of sculptures, covered realistic and abstract metal sculptures and large outdoor sculptures. Jin’s work reflects the re-evaluation of both American and Chinese cultures. Jin created an unique painting technique especially for bronze/stainless steel and turn it into a new generation of metal sculpture style. “The Tao of Metal” series is an idea of searching an alternative way to express Chinese calligraphy. The twisted calligraphy-like characters represent language and communication—it expresses an idea of a word, or a story, or a poem. As an artist, he would like to use his art to describe a different type of art form that has a strong attachment with language and writing. The Chinese characters of his work are metaphorical art forms, a form of abstract metal sculpting, made from a piece of copper sheet that is cut, banded and twisted with the artist’s artistic mind.
