Clare Packer developed her practice while studying at Wimbledon School of Art in the early 1960s. She specialized in Illustration, though she was also very much involved with sculpture and ceramics. Following on from her studies, Clare became a teacher.
She turned again to ceramics about 12 years ago, not as a thrower but as a maker of hand-built dishes and objects decorated with three-dimensional images. Since returning to her practice, Clare's artworks have exhibited variously at the Piers Feetham Gallery in London, at the Aldeburgh Festival Exhibition, and as an invited contributor to The Discerning Eye at the Mall Galleries in Central London.
Lately, there has been a growing interest in the design of these objects which has led to her present work with collage. Her new work has become increasingly experimental in its use of personally-worked papers and painted surfaces rather than found, given or bought material. Apart from inclusion in exhibitions at the Piers Feetham Gallery, her collages were also seen last year at The Affordable Art Fair, and at Small is Beautiful XXI at Flowers Central in Mayfair.
