A graphic designer for much of his life, Williamson now works from his home studio in Bedfordshire. His paintings depict atmospheric scenes featuring his character Garfield and his faithful Jack Russell ‘Barton Darcy’. (It is worth mentioning that confirmed loner Garfield has recently been joined by a female companion).
Most of the paintings are accompanied with humorous ‘ditties’. – 4 line poems about the world as the dog sees it, and they evolve from the annotations of his sketchbook doodles. He paints in oil on wooden panels and cites Paul Sample and Ralph Steadman as early influences. More recently perhaps, Gary Bunt and Sam Toft. “I like to give people a grin if possible”.
Having exhibited locally in Woburn, Olney and Hitchin, originals of Chris’ work are now available from The Art Movement in London, following interest and sales success at last years Affordable Art Fair in Battersea. His work has been published as greetings cards and limited edition wall art and we are pleased to be exhibiting a range of his original framed paintings in the gallery.
