There is a great sense of balance and harmony in Andrew Brett's abstracts, a myriad of texture and colour lifting up from the canvas into three dimensions. Andrew is influenced by memories of experiences past, whether they be emotions, ideas, or observations of art and culture or of the natural and physical world. He is interested in exploring how different application methods of paint to canvas renders very different outcomes, despite their, often, shared colour palette.
The artist explains "I feel my paintings emerge, with my part, merely to facilitate their creation. To borrow a concept from Rothko, I think almost always my own 'consummation' with the painting happens towards its completion." The beauty of Andrew's work is that the interpretation is, for the most part, left to the viewer.
