Ala Khonikava was born and raised in Belarus, where she obtained a Diploma in decorative art and textile design at the Art Academy. She is now living in the Netherlands; in her studio in Meppel she works on all her art projects comprising of landscapes, still life, portraits and so on.
Ala's style is influenced by Impressionism, it's lyrical and decorative. She is inspired by the simple things in nature, such as a leaf or a stone with a special pattern. Indeed, landscape subject plays a major role in her works: shapes and lines of trees, rhythm of reeds and branches, sharp colour contrasts of sky and field, playing with light and shadow.
