3D INSTALLATION A superb collection of rare original condition Dinky aircraft. From top middle: Thought to be one of the very first Dinky aircraft, this gold Imperial Airways Liner (60a) was produced as part of a box set in 1936-39. Following are three Vickers Supermarine Spitfires MkII (62a) - left and middle (1940), right is the Vickers Supermarine Spitfire MkII (62a) with blue and red markings (1945). Bottom middle is the (60g) gold De Havilland "Comet" (1935-1941). Accompanying the Comet are four 70b Hawker Tempest IIƒ??s (1952-55).
Nicky Crowther (1978) lives and works in London. She is a self-taught artist and vintage toy collector. She collects original condition vintage toys and re-imagines them in carefully composed contemporary 3D installations. The pieces exhibited here come from her ‘Flying Machines’ collection in which she primarily uses antique Dinky Toy aeroplanes as her medium, dating from as early as 1945. The theme of the work is the preservation of toys. Crowther will spend months sourcing specific and often rare originals.
