Duty-Free is Ground Floor Gallery’s 5th Annual Gowanus Open Studios Exhibition. A tribute to the community of artists living and working in the shadow of this storied Canal, Duty-Free features five Gowanus-based artists whose current work is informed by memory, impressions and materials collected from myriad destinations real and imagined.

The group exhibition PAPER / CLOTH / PRINT featuring Washington D.C. based artists Dominie Nash, Nancy McNamara and Hillary Steel focuses on hand-printed collage fabrics, textiles and dyed cloth weaving and printmaking works.

Twenty-seven illustrative photographs by Marcy Cohen reveal the Japanese tradition of Hanami (cherry blossom viewing) and reflect on the Japanese “Way” and Haiku poetry of Matsuo Basho.

Hunt Slonem celebrates the simplicity of nature in Bunnies and Butterflies at Lilac Gallery. The uplifting disposition of his subject matter draws upon a spiritual connection with nature, animals, and history.

The solo exhibition Neutral Territory features new mixed-media works by Mauricio Morillas that investigate the infinite shades of white, off-white, grey and black. Working with diverse elements including pigment, acrylic, metal, glass and resin on wood panel, Morillas’ layered works explore themes tension and harmony.

The group shown features 25 artworks from US and International artists all priced under $2,600. The exhibit features architectural and nature inspired works on paper, paintings and mixed-media artworks in addition to three distinct styles of photography.

Taiwanese sculptor Hung Yi and Korean photographer Young Sam Kim will present new artworks as part of Concrete Jungle. While Young Sam Kim’s conceptual photographs capture his often-evocative thoughts and emotions, Hung Yi’s sculptures are inspired by Taiwanese culture or day-to-day life in Taiwan.

Michael Mapes presents two series of work in 62 Collections, his first solo exhibition at Krause Gallery and in NYC. Referencing forensic, entomological, and biological sciences, Mapes’s portraits are three dimensional collages that analyze the physical and biographical attributes of the artist’s subjects.
