Shot on a large format camera the photograph seems both lost in time and perhaps is a metaphor for a future US with a faded American dream. Is the 70's light on the front in fact a camera, a big brother eye....always watching.
Barry Cawston's photography is cinematic in approach and, coupled with a strong sense of composition often has a painterly quality. He works mainly on a large format camera and learnt much of his craft in the darkroom. His work has been increasingly recognised within a fine art context and he has won several prestigious awards including the South West Art Award in 2010 and was an invited artist at the RWA's Photographic Open 2011. In 2014 Cawston had solo shows in France, Russia, Sweden and Belgium, and will be exhibiting in New York and Toronto. He was also one of winners of the T.I.N.A international art prize 2015 which culminates in a solo show in Barcelona at Villa Del Arte Gallery.
