About Adam Robinson

About the artwork

A collection of original, vintage booklet covers arranged on painted canvas with a three-dimensional element. The work is mounted behind glass within a white, wooden frame. These covers are from booklets produced in the 1960s by the Brooke Bond Tea Company. Cards featuring hand-drawn images of world flags and emblems would be collected one by one from boxes of tea and then glued inside the booklet. The individual history of each item is evident in the marks, creases and worn edges of the paper whilst the raised circles bring contrast to the surrounding shapes. The repeated images create a colourful geometric pattern resulting in particularly effective diagonal lines running through the piece.
